Momentary Diversion
Though this is a whiskey site, there are times when we have to talk about other spirits. In this case it is Rum, in particular Sailor Jerry Rum. It's a 92 proof spiced from Hawaii that appeared at the office a couple of months ago. I bring it up today because it is a worthy spirit, a great rum and a bargain right now.
Rite Aid is selling 750s of Sailor Jerry for $9.99 right now. That is a heck of a deal for a rum that normally goes for $15-$18.
Rum has always had a place in my heart. I like them smooth and spicy or dark rich and sweet. It wasn't too long ago that The Box actually housed a few rums. They were banished to the liquor cabinet when the whiskey population grew to enough bottles that I could move the box without fear of breakage.
Rum is a critical component of many favorite mixed drinks. Not the least of which is "Rum and Cup". "Rum and Root Beer" beats out "Rum and Coke" (especially if you use high-fructose laden American Coke, get Mexican Coke to do that properly) and "Long Island Ice Tea" is a joy when made without soda but with dark rum.
Do yourself a favor and go grab a bottle of Sailor Jerry. Right now it's at the right price to take a gamble.
